Z Visa (Chinese Work Visa) - Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit(NLFWP),Foreigner’s Work Permit (FWP) and Residence Permit(RP) service

Chinese Z Visa (also called Work Visa or Residence Permit(RP)) is issued to a foreigner who comes to China for a post or employment, commercial performance or academic exchanges.

In accordance with the decision of the State Council's Administrative Examination and Approval Reform Office, the old “Alien Employment Permit” and old “Foreign Expert Employment Permit” are henceforth integrated into the “Foreigner's Work Permit” (FWP) in China. This affair is being implemented by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) in China. SAFEA had decided to carry out a pilot program in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hebei, Guangdong, Anhui, Shandong, Sichuan, Yu'nan and Ningxia from October 2016 to March 2017, and then the whole China has implemented this policy from 1st April 2017.

Shanghai as an experimental unit, had started the new “Foreigner's Work Permit” (FWP) policy from November 2016. Shanghai Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SHAFEA) is responsible for this affair in Shanghai.

The new policy will divide the foreigner who works in China into 3 categories. Category A (High-end foreign talents), Category B (Foreign professional talents), Category C (Other Foreigners).

You have to reach at least Category B, and then we can apply your FWP and work type Residence Permit (which is the necessary documents to work legally in China). Please click the following link to check:

If your current visa is longer enough (as our experience, still valid over 30 days after you submit all the documents to us) to wait for your FWP to be approved, then you are allowed to change your L or M visa into Residence Permit/Z visa in China without leaving.

From 23rd March 2017, the new “Foreigner's Work Permit” (FWP) policy has started in Shanghai. Every company needs to register a new account in the new system replace the former card. It takes at least 5 working days. To avoid any delay, please email to your consultant of「PassportVisa」for the introduction of new system registration (Your company can start to register now!)

Z1-B1 Service: First time Apply for 1 Year FWP and RP with your employer:

Employee needs to provide at beginning:

1. Original of your Passport, valid visa (visa better still valid over 30 days), the latest entry stamp page;

2. Resume or CV(in English or Chinese is ok) [ Sample ]

3. Original of your diploma（ Bachelor, Master or Doctor degree), and the degree transcript(if you have)

4. If above diploma is not issued in China, then an extra authentication certificate(legalized the copy of your diploma) is necessary, legalized & authenticated by any one of following authority is available:

• A: Your country Notary Public, Your country Ministry of Foreign Affairs，Chinese Consulate or Embassy in your country

• B: Your country Embassy or Consulate in China

5. Original reference letter from any foreign company, which you have worked before, to prove you have 2 years full-time relating working experience (after graduated) in your current industry and position.

6. Original official Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) or No Crime Recording(NCP) from your home country (if you didn’t live in your home country, then please provide the latest foreign country’s where you have been lived more than 1 year. PCC (or NCP) issued from any one of following authority is available:

• A: Your country Local Police Station

• B: Your country Security Bureau

• C: Your country Local Court

The official Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) or No Crime Recording(NCP) is not issued in China, then an extra authentication certificate(legalized the copy or original of PCC or NCP) is necessary, legalized & authenticated by any one of following authority is available:

• A: Your country Notary Public, Your country Ministry of Foreign Affairs，Chinese Consulate or Embassy in your country

• B: Your country Embassy or Consulate in China

7. Original Chinese HSK license (if you don’t have it, then please ignore it)

8. Original medical check up report, we can assistant you to reserve and accompany you (Reserve online: http://sithc.shciq.gov.cn/sithcen/)

9. 1 digital photo (White background, 35mm*48mm or 413pixel*626pixel in computer, please email to us)

Notice 1: From 1st July 2015, if you have applied twice working visa continuously in shanghai for over 2 years, and haven't violated any immigration laws and local regulations, and then we can help you apply the 5-years residence permit instead of 1-year. (If you want to try with the 5-years option, please mentioned it clearly when you submit your application to us, because the service charge and the paperwork is different and for 5 years’ application, you need to show up with us to have a small interview, we also need to arrange it for you in advance)

Notice 2: 5-years residence permit service is not 100% guarantee (according to our experience, it's less than 20% success rate), the immigration officer will go to your company, check all your behavior in China and then make the final decision, if the government denies your application (for example, your company register capital is too small or some other reasons), you will get 1-year RP automatically, and we will charge the 1-year fee then.

Notice 3: Even you got the 5-years RP; you still need to renew the FWP every year. But anyway, it's really a big improvement, you can save a lot of visa cost and you don't need to worry about the visa expiring every year.

Notice 4: Even you got the 5-years RP, if you switch job, you need to give up your current 5-years RP and re-apply a new FWP and RP in the name of your new company. If you don't do that, it will be counted as illegal employment and you will face a huge penalty.

Notice 5: According "Law of the PRC on Administrative Permission", Article 50(1) "If a person who has been granted administrative permission needs an extension of the term of validity of the administrative permission obtained according to law, he shall, 30 days before the expiration of the said term of validity, make an application to the administrative organ that makes the decision on administrative permission. However, where laws, regulations and rules provide otherwise, the provisions thereof shall prevail".

From February 28, 2018, the application for extension of the work permit for foreigners in China must be submitted 30 days before the expiration date of the permit, and the application will not be submitted in 30 days of the expiration date.

Notice 1: If Company A and Company B is not in the same industry (for example, Company A is consulting company and company B is restaurant), then the application failure rate will be higher than in the same industry.

Notice 2: According to the immigration regulation, after we submit your new FWP in the name of employer B, you need to give up your former RP of employer A and change it to a 1 month 0 entry M visa immediately to avoid the illegal employment.
